Gloggnitz, Austria, 25.07.2024

In July, an evaporation plant for the evaporation of liquid fermentation residues from biomass left GIG Karasek's headquarters in Gloggnitz, Austria. The new plant is currently being installed in one of the largest biomethane plants in Europe at nordfuel GmbH (a subsidiary of revis bioenergy) in Friesoythe, Germany.

The flagship plant will process up to one million tons of surplus biomass from regional farms per year (final expansion stage). The biomethane produced is fed into the natural gas grid and then processed into the sustainable fuel “Bio-LNG”.

The heart of the evaporation plant based on mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) is a GIG Karasek plate falling-film evaporator, which is particularly suitable for high evaporation rates as well as low-viscosity and heavily fouling substances. In the plant in Friesoythe, the liquid phase, produced after fermentation of the biomass and separation of the fermentation residue, is concentrated. The evaporated liquid phase is used as fertilizer, while the evaporated portion can be reused in various processes at the biomethane plant.

Start-up is planned for autumn 2024.

GIG Karasek manufactures its key components and special high-pressure equipment in Austria. While mainly falling-film evaporators and heating elements are produced in Gloggnitz, components for thin-film and short-path technology are manufactured in Attnang-Puchheim.
